Safety Courses

Accident Prevention Educational Program (APEP)

All Alliance apprentices must complete the Accident Prevention Educational Program for Electrical Construction and Maintenance Workers (APEP). It is a mandatory component of the Alliance Program because apprentice safety on the job is our number one priority. No other program requires these courses, and no other program offers these courses for FREE as part of the apprenticeship program.

The following is a list of the safety courses we provide along with a short description:

First Aid

Prompt and correct treatment of injuries not only reduces pain and suffering but also saves lives. A valid accredited First Aid Standard With C certificate provides the training for apprentices to respond quickly in an emergency.

WHMIS

WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) is a Canada-wide system designed to protect the health and safety of workers by providing information about hazardous materials used on the job. WHMIS gives every worker the right to know about hazardous materials they work with and ensures workers have access to that information.

Working at Heights

Ontario regulation requires employers to ensure all construction workers in their employ complete a Ministry of Labour approved, Working at Heights (WAH) training program before working at heights and using a fall protection system.

Incident Investigation

The apprentice will be made aware of the proper procedure to be followed if a fatal or serious accident occurs on a construction project. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate section of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulation that pertain to accidents.

Live Apparatus

This course deals with proper procedures when working on live equipment safely and correct sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation.

Hoisting and Rigging

The apprentice will be made aware of the typical safety hazards that may be present on a construction project regarding hoisting and rigging and specific Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations that pertain to the safe working conditions.

Confined Spaces

The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to the hazards of confined spaces.
