Accident Investigation: 3 hours
The apprentice will be made aware of the proper procedure to be followed if a fatal or serious accident occurs on a construction project. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate section of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to accidents.

Confined Spaces: 3 hours
The apprentice will be made aware of the hazards of confined spaces and the proper procedures to be followed with respect to the hazards of confined spaces that may be part of a construction project. The apprentice will be able to recognize a confined space. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to the hazards of confined spaces.

Tag and Lock Out: 3 hours
The apprentice will be made aware of the necessity of the Tag and Lock Off procedures that are to be followed with respect to power shut down. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to Tag and Lock Off.

Live Apparatus: 3 hours
NOTE: The apprentice must be in at least his/her third term to register for this course.

The apprentice will be made aware of the proper procedures to be followed when there is a necessity to work on live equipment safely. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to the safe working conditions necessary to work on live apparatus.

Hoisting and Rigging: 16 hours
This is a certification course. The apprentice will be made aware of the necessity of safe hoisting and rigging on a construction project. The apprentice will be made aware of the typical safety hazards that may be present on a construction project regarding hoisting and rigging. The apprentice will also be made aware of the appropriate sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation that pertain to the safe working conditions that pertain to hoisting and rigging. This course must be presented by a certified trainer.

This course has a formal evaluation. The following marks are necessary to be successful in this course.

• Crane hand signals 100%

• Knot and Hitches 80%

• Written evaluation 80%

Fall Protection: 6 hours
This course is legislated training and it is a certification course. The apprentice will be made aware of the necessity of fall protection on a construction project. The apprentice will also be made aware of the procedures to be followed with respect to fall protection. This course has three parts the D.B.I. Sala fall protection program the C.S.A.O. fall protection program and a demonstration of the typical equipment that may be available on a construction project. The apprentice will also be required to demonstrate the correct procedure for the examination of a full body harness and lanyard for defect and the proper procedure to correctly adjust and wear a full body harness and lanyard.

Evaluation:

• Written Evaluation 80%

• Demonstration of the examination of a full body harness for defects and the adjustment of a full body harness and lanyard for correct fit 100%
