Frequently Asked Questions - Supplementary Training Classes
Why do I have to attend classes?
As per the JAC Policies, Procedures and Expectations guidelines this is a mandatory component of the program. ALL JAC apprentices are required to attend ALL Supplementary Training classes as prescribed by the JAC. In the same way that you receive Code Books, textbooks, Bursaries and your Trade School is paid for by the JAC on behalf of the GTECA, your obligation in the program is to attend the STC classes.
What if I cannot make it?
You must! 100% attendance is expected. It is a mandatory component of The JAC Program and compulsory, as stated in the contract that you signed.
If for a valid reason, you cannot attend a class you must contact your Counsellor immediately and be prepared to provide documentation to validate the absence.
How many hours are credited?
- 1st Semester you are credited with 52 hours towards your apprenticeship.
- 2nd Semester you are credited with 52 hours towards your apprenticeship.
- 3rd Semester you are credited with 60 hours towards your apprenticeship.
Can I postpone STC’s?
No! You are scheduled to attend at critical stages of your apprenticeship and cannot be scheduled for the next level of Trade School until STC’s are successfully completed.
Do I need to buy books for STC’s?
For the majority of the courses your materials will be provided. Any courses that require you to purchase books or materials will be identified and you will be informed before registration.
What if I fail STC’s?
Seeing as your employer has paid for you to attend, failing will mean you will need to be rescheduled at your expense ($700). You cannot be scheduled for the next level of Trade School until STC’s are successfully completed.
What if my employer won’t let me attend STC’s?
Seeing as your employer has paid for you to attend it is unlikely they would ask you not to attend.
How much do STC’s cost?
Seeing as your employer has paid for you to attend, STC’s are free to you if you attend when scheduled and successfully complete the courses. Failing will mean you will need to be rescheduled at your expense ($700). Failing to attend STC’s when scheduled will mean you will have to be rescheduled. You cannot be scheduled for the next level of Trade School until STC’s are successfully completed.
