OYAP

ONTARIO YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (OYAP)

This OYAP / Electrical Pre-Apprentice Program is unique to IBEW 353. It provides a pathway for high school students to become a 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician (ICI - Industrial, Commercial & Institutional).

A student considering this pathway should already have decided that this is the career they want to pursue. They should have had some experience and/or direct exposure to construction and the trades, in particular the electrical industry.

Click here to find out more information about the program and typical job conditions.

See the video below for some of the types of tasks that ICI electricians may encounter.

Highlights of the Program:

• Guidance Counsellor / student must find an IBEW 353 contractor who is able to provide a placement in the 2nd semester of Grade 12.

• This is a paid opportunity.

• Placement hours will count towards a pre-apprenticeship if the student is offered continued employment with the contractor.

• Some students may be asked to take a career pathway suitability assessment.

• This is NOT accelerated OYAP and is not compatible with accelerated OYAP.
